School kids set to swelter as government dismisses air con motion
The NSW Government has voted down a motion to get air conditioning in all the state’s public schools.
In the western suburbs of Sydney, students can swelter through summer temperatures exceeding 40 degrees.
NSW Shadow Education Minister Jihad Dib tells Ben Fordham the motion got no support and the current conditions are unsafe and unacceptable.
“It’s unbelievable. This year already during school days we’ve had temperatures well above the 40s.
“We have parents who don’t send their kids to school because they’re worried because it’s so hot.”
Mr Dib says members wouldn’t sit in state parliament without air con so why should our kids do so in their classrooms?
