Scotty James: One of Australia’s greatest contemporary sport stars
Australians have been introduced to an absolute class act.
23-year-old snowboarder Scotty James took home the bronze on Wednesday in the men’s snowboard halfpipe.
Scotty, from Warrandyte in Victoria, was also the Aussie flag bearer in the opening ceremony.
Alan Jones speaks to the incredibly humble bronze-medalist after his win, who is quick to thank his family.
“They sacrificed a lot for me to be in this position. Mum and my dad spent time away from my other siblings growing up for me to be able to pursue this career and pursue this dream of mine.
“It was absolutely amazing yesterday, it was the first time, as long as I can remember, that my whole family was able to be there.
“To be able to perform in front of them and for my country and the world was something that I really wanted to do… so thanks a lot.”
Scotty shares with Alan the story behind his signature red boxing gloves.
“It’s just a little sentimental value for me before I drop in, and just to remind me of where I come from and what I’ve been through to get there to stand at the top of the halfpipe.”
