Seniors Advocate calls for pensioner rule overhaul
There are calls for the government to remove the handbrake to pensioners working longer hours.
The federal government has announced that pensioners will be able to earn an extra $4000 each financial year through a one-off income credit, without losing their benefits.
The policy change is expected to cost the government around $55 million.
National Seniors Australia Chief Advocate Ian Henschke told Ben Fordham it won’t come into effect until December and only run until June.
“This is a good first step but let’s make the step a walk, and then make it a run into the future.
“Don’t do things where you just move forward a bit and then pull the handbrake on it.”
