Penny Wong is preparing for the first ministerial visit to China in three years and will meet with her counterpart tomorrow.

Penny Wong will today become the first Australian minister to visit China since 2019.

She’s visiting Beijing at China’s request and will meet with her counterpart Wang Yi.

The plight of two Australians detained in China, and ongoing trade sanctions, are likely to be high on the agenda.

Former Executive Director at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute Peter Jennings weighed in on what the meeting could mean for Australians.
