Solid Knockback: Goanna’s Shane Howard hands back OAM after The Voice fails

Legendary Australian musician Shane Howard has handed back his Order of Australia Medal following the Voice to Parliament referendum.

The Goanna frontman who wrote many songs about Indigenous issues, the horrific history of colonialism in Australia, and other social issues, said he could no longer in good conscious hold the honour following The Voice’s failure. He said he could no longer be proud of his country in his letter handing back his OAM.

“When I wrote the song, ‘Solid Rock, Sacred Ground’, 40 years ago, I wanted us to address the fundamental lie at the heart of our national story”, he wrote to the Governor-General.
