Ray Hadley says there need to be stronger penalties for mobile phone use, after a young Sydney driver was filmed before she was killed when she lost control of her car.

The video was posted on social media and shared up to 50 times.

After the incident, her two surviving friends, who were in the car, posed for a selfie from their hospital beds.

Currently in NSW you will lose five demerit points if caught using a mobile phone, and 10 points during double demerits.

But Ray Hadley says drivers who are caught using their mobiles should be stripped of their license.

“In other words you better ring a cab to get home… you’ve lost your license as of now.

“If we see young people, and older people, losing their life because of mobile phone use, something has to give.”

The NSW Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy says out of 9,000 tickets issued this year for mobile phone use, 1,000 of those were P-plate drivers.

But the biggest percentage of those caught using their phones are between the ages of 26 and 35, while 22 per cent are between 36 and 45-years-old.

“That’s really concerning to us. It’s really coming across the board now.”
