In a world-first collaboration, Spinal Tap bassist Derek Smalls will take the stage with You Am I at the Adelaide Guitar Festival.

This follows You Am I’s Spinal Tap themed national tour in 2018.

Derek Smalls joined Joe Hildebrand on Afternoons to explain how the collaboration came about.

“I think a lot of bands have gotten into the covering of Spinal Tap business, but not to the extent, not to the intensity and the dedication of You Am I,” he said.

Mr Smalls also mused about Boris Johnson, his relationships with girls named Cindy, being backed up by symphony orchestras and his friendship with Harry Shearer.

The show titled This Time It’s Personal is on at the Adelaide Guitar Festival on the 23rd of July.
