State MP reveals dodgy water loophole hurting our farmers
A state crossbench MP is calling for more clarity on who owns water licenses.
Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party MP for Murray, Helen Dalton, tells Alan Jones politicians don’t have to declare any interests they have in water.
Unlike land and business ownership, MPs could be benefiting financially from important political decisions about water.
Ms Dalton has proposed a bill to make water ownership public, which will be discussed next year.
“There’s people there that would have water,” she says.
“You have to declare your land and your shares, the jobs that you’ve had in the past, but there was no obligation to actually declare your water.”
