‘Stop the publicity stunts’: Jim Wilson’s message to the Mayor of Fairfield
2GB Drive Presenter Jim Wilson has called on local councils to “stop the publicity stunts” after Fairfield Mayor Frank Carbone called for south-west Sydney to be renamed.
The Mayor wants the region to be renamed “The Parks” but doesn’t want it to include Bankstown and Canterbury, because he believes they are in the inner-west.
“Surely there are bigger fish to fry, mayor,” Jim Wilson said on 2GB Drive.
“To me, I’m sorry, it reeks for a grab for publicity.
“Apparently (he) thinks his region is too easily grouped in with suburbs in our west, and now a new identity is needed.
“Did anyone think this is the problem?”

Mayor Frank Carbone called in to debate the geography of where south-west Sydney actually was with Jim
“I can assure you I have a compass, and I can assure you (the suburbs of Canterbury, Bankstown and Lakemba) are not south of Fairfield,” he said.
“The proposal is not about diving anybody … it’s about making sure the people in south-west Sydney are recognised.”
