Surf Lifesaving calls for better signage following drowning at Fingal Spit

Article image for Surf Lifesaving calls for better signage following drowning at Fingal Spit

On Easter Sunday, a man drowned at the Fingal Spit, and now Surf Lifesaving is requesting better signage and emergency beacons.

The man was pulled from the water at the Fingal Spit – the tidal sand bridge between Fingal Bay beach and Fingal Island – at 10am on Sunday.

Surf Lifesaving NSW CEO, Steve Pearce, says they need to concentrate on better signage and “creating public awareness”.

“The government has committed funding for emergency response beacons, for people to activate if they see someone in trouble,” Steve told Ray Hadley.
