Sydney mayor slugs ratepayers with $300,000 ad blitz in suspected tilt at federal politics
Cumberland Mayor Steve Christou is once again under fire, with the cost of his newspaper ads revealed.
Granville MP Julia Finn told Ray Hadley the ads in the Daily Telegraph are far from free, with Cumberland ratepayers forking out $308,000 for a full page advertisement every Friday, for the whole year from April.
“It’s quite ridiculous; it’s a huge sum of money.
“No other council does this, and mostly it’s a column just written by him with lots of pictures of him, and his thoughts about all manner of things.
“I don’t know why anyone in Brewarrina or Bega needs to know what the mayor of Cumberland thinks about anything, really.”
Ms Finn expects Mr Christou to run against her as an independent in the next state election, but given the state-wide spending spree, “I wouldn’t be surprised if it was actually a bigger platform that he was craving”.
