Sydney trains sent into meltdown
Sydney Trains is blaming the “ripple effect” for a day of chaos across Sydney’s rail network, but denies the new timetable is to blame.
A fatality at Wentworthville at about 6.30am yesterday caused more than 12 hours of delays for commuters on multiple lines.
The disruptions came two weeks after the biggest overhaul of Sydney’s rail timetable in four years.
Shadow Transport Minister Jodie McKay has told Chris Smith the the network is operating at capacity, leaving no room for diversions or recovery from incidents.
“If there is a minor incident or a delay on the network it will cause cumulative and unrecoverable delays in the evening peak.
“The minister has had that information, he knows that it was possible and that is what we saw yesterday afternoon.”
