Senior Labor MP Tanya Plibersek has apologised after comparing Peter Dutton to Harry Potter villain Voldemort.

Ms Plibersek told Brisbane’s 4BC Drive host Scott Emerson, “I think there will be a lot of children who have watched a lot of Harry Potter films who will be very frightened of what they are seeing on TV at night, that’s for sure.”

“I am saying he looks a bit like Voldemort.”

The MP has since told Ben Fordham she has contacted Mr Dutton to apologise and acknowledges she shouldn’t have said it.
