‘Technology fails’: Major bank scraps cash as Australia edges closer to cashless society
Australia is teetering on the brink of becoming a cashless society, with Macquarie Bank confirming they will soon become a cashless bank.
Getting rid of cash in Australia, a country that features some extremely rural areas and relies on an often failing NBN, feels fraught with danger. Chris O’Keefe spoke to the Council of the Aging’s Patricia Sparrow about concerns Australians have with this.
“Unless the government says ‘hey, look, we’re going cashless’ then businesses shouldn’t be able just to make those decisions unilaterally”, Chris said of Macquarie Bank going out on a limb with the decision.
