Australian soccer player Riley McGree has scored what could be the best goal anywhere in the world this year.

The Newcastle forward pulled off a freakish ‘scorpion kick’ goal in the Jets’ semi-final win over Melbourne City.

The 19-year-old’s effort has gone viral on social media and is now the favourite for FIFA goal of the year.

McGree tells Alan Jones it was a spur of the moment reaction.

“If the ball pops up like that at training you swing your leg at it, but it’s not something you practice week in, week out.”
