The day Ray Hadley knew Beccy Cole had written her most iconic song

Ray Hadley has recalled the moment he knew country music artist Beccy Cole had written “the best song” she’s ever done.

Cole walked into a tent at Darling Harbour on Australia Day, 2005 and asked Ray if she could try out a new song.

“I said: ‘I don’t care where it is on the album, it’s your single,” Ray told Cole.

The song, Poster Girl, has been an integral part of Cole’s live sets ever since.

“I remember that day – I don’t even think I’d written the bridge yet,” she added.

“I just wanted to try it out and you said ‘Go on, give it a go’.

“There was a returned veteran there and he was in tears; it was sort of a sign of things to come, I guess.”
