2021 is set to go out with a bang in Sydney, with the annual fireworks display a the heart of celebrations.

John Stanley copped some flak yesterday after claiming he’d seen “a lot” of fireworks and they “all look the same”.

But the Executive Producer of the New Year’s Eve celebrations, Stephen Gilby says John would be pleasantly surprised.

“There’s a lot of pyro and some really innovative pyro that we’re doing this year: some new colours, some new pastel colours, there’s some in different shapes, there’s some 3D cube pyro…

“There’s some really exciting innovations.”

The great news is there’s no one vantage point around the Harbour that will deliver less.

“There’s the fireworks on the bridge, there’s actually the most fireworks we’ve ever done off the Sydney Opera House this year and there’s also five barges on either side of the bridge.

“Wherever you are around the Harbour and further afield as well, you’ll be able to see the fireworks.”

New South Wales Deputy Commissioner Mal Lanyon has told John Stanley officers will be out in force to ensure everyone enjoys the night safely.

“There will be additional trains on tonight to make sure people can get out of town.

“It’s one of the things we as police focus on, that at the end of the night we can get people out quickly, get people out safely and get them home.”
