Police say safety is the name of the game during one of their largest operations of the year.

Three thousand officers will take to the streets of Sydney tomorrow night as revellers ring in the New Year.

While most vantage points to see the fireworks on the Harbour will be ticketed, police warn partiers not to even attempt heading into the city unless they have reservations.

“All we want is for everybody to have a good time, but to be safe and that’s why we’ve got so many officers deployed on the evening,” NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Peter Thurtell told Mark Levy.

“It’s about individual responsibility but police will be out in force.”
