The plastic bag ban could be expanded

Article image for The plastic bag ban could be expanded

The Palaszczuk Government’s ban on plastic bags could be expanded.

The ban on single-use plastic bags in Queensland came into effect in July but the state government is looking to ban thicker plastic bags in a bid crack down on pollution.

The Victorian Government last week confirmed its open to banning all plastic bags.

National Retail Association CEO Dominique Lamb tells Deborah Knight the plastic bag ban has “had a big impact”.

“It’s been quite, I think, a transition for consumers… Now, most people are bringing they’re own bags.

Ms Lamb says retailers and consumers are looking for “more reductions across the board” like reducing plastic straws and plastic lids on drink.
