The SECRET abandoned train stations underneath Sydney
The secret abandoned train stations underneath Sydney were used as air raid shelters for the war.
They were built between 1922 and 1926 as part of John Bradfield’s grand plan for the city railway.
He built provisions for future expansion which were unfortunately abandoned.
Bill Phippen from the Australian Railway Historical Society revealed to Chris O’Keefe that some of the tunnels were used in the war in the 1940s.
“The ones towards the Eastern suburbs were unused and unfinished, so they were set up in the 1940s as air raid shelters,” Bill Phippen said.
