Beloved TV identity Scotty Cam has hit out at cab drivers who refuse to turn on the meter and demand a set fare instead.

Ben Fordham has been inundated with stories from listeners being confronted with the practice.

Scotty recounted his own taxi story, where the driver refused to turn on the meter.

“We got out with a few choice words and got an Uber,” he told Ben Fordham.

“They’re ripping people off!”

NSW Taxi Council full statement: 

“We have raised this with the Point to Point Transport Commission Regulator, as they have the power to fine and prosecute drivers.

“It is unacceptable and need to work with the regulator to stop this.

“In Rank & Hail, it is illegal for drivers to refuse a fare and they need to run the meter.”
