Tens of thousands of Australians gathered in major cities as the sun rose this morning, to pay tribute to fallen Australian and New Zealand soldiers on Anzac Day.

The first of a series of services began at 4:20am at The Cenotaph in Sydney’s Martin Place.

The dawn service included a catafalque contingent, an Ode of Remembrance, a Last Post bugle call, a minute’s silence and a Reveille played on a bugle and the laying of wreaths.

“This is so different from previous years, this is no limited service,” 2GB reporter Clinton Maynard told Luke Grant.
