Tigers chairman denies joining push to oust Michael Maguire amid ‘messy’ yearly review
Wests Tigers coach Michael ‘Madge’ Maguire has survived the club’s end of year review, but the decision to retain him was not unanimous.
The club’s chairman Lee Hagipantelis denied being one of the board members baying for Madge’s head to roll, but admitted to James Willis and Paul Gallen the process has been “messy”.
“The review wasn’t centred on one person, it was centred on the football department as a whole, and to ask … why we finished 13th this year and what we can do better.
“We strive for perfection, but we’re not blind to the imperfection.
“Caoching staff, players, general manager of football, CEO, all the way up to the board – all of us have got a responsibility.”
