Tim Cahill hints he will play at the World Cup
Socceroos legend Tim Cahill talks to 2GB’s Alan Jones the morning after Australia qualifies for a fourth consecutive FIFA World Cup.
Australia downed Honduras 3 -1 in front of a sell-out crowd at ANZ Stadium in Sydney, earning qualification for next year’s tournament in Russia.
Cahill told his good friend Alan Jones the feeling is surreal.
“I don’t know if it’s excitement mate, it’s something you feel in your heart. It’s just great to be part of this journey, it’s an amazing feeling.”
Captain Mile Jedinak led by example, scoring a rare second half hat-trick.
“I’m just so proud the way the captain led the team, the way the boys played, the manager , the staff, the fans. Very proud AJ.
“We do it the Australian way and that’s the hard way.”
When asked if Ange Postecoglou would remain as coach for the World Cup Cahill refused to speculate.
“I think he’s got to be given the opportunity to enjoy this. We stuck together, we’ve been through the firing line together as a team. You’ve had to ride the wave of people saying is he or isn’t he and he’s done the job.”
As for his own future, Cahill hinted he’ll do everything possible to make it to Russia.
“For me it gives me no better inspiration to look forward to trying to get to another World Cup.”
