Today’s train strikes deprive blind student of independence
A blind 2GB Drive listener has described her tough experience catching the train today.
Charlotte Chilvers is a 24-year-old university student and is blind.
Charlotte relies on her guide dog and public transport, including trains, to commute to her classes at Western Sydney University and without trains, she can’t get anywhere independently.
She told Jim Wilson the trip was stressful for her as the trains were congested and she almost missed her class like last week.
“They were extremely crowded and my dad had to come with me as I was a bit of a mess on the platform,” she said.
“People were knocking into Bronte my guide dog.
“[The strikes] have taken away my confidence to travel independently.”
“Hopefully the union and Alex Claassens hear this interview with Charlotte,” Jim said.
