Trams aim to make Sydney ‘pedestrian-friendly’

Transport for NSW says pedestrians will remain a priority in the CBD despite the anticipated heavy presence of trams.

Trams are being trialled along George St, with the first line to open in December, but there are concerns the long and frequent trams will make it difficult for pedestrians to cross.

Transport for NSW Coordinator General Marg Prendergast tells John Stanley the trams will be running every 4 minutes.

“We’ve just got to remember that the trams are now replacing heavy traffic.

“We will be moving them through intersections at the same time that we allow pedestrians to cross, they’ll move together.

“We really want to make this city more pedestrian-friendly.”
