Treasurer Josh Frydenberg commends retiring colleagues Greg Hunt and Christian Porter
Greg Hunt’s parliamentary colleague Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has paid tribute to the Health Minister ahead of his anticipated retirement announcement.
Mr Hunt will announce his retirement from federal politics on Thursday, senior Liberal figures told the Australian Financial Review.
While Mr Frydenberg told Jim Wilson it’s “not for me to confirm or deny those rumours”, he did commend his “best mate’s” achievements.
“I had the good pleasure and the honour of being the godfather to his daughter, and he has returned the favour by being the godfather to mine.
“He had really stepped up to the plate over the course of this pandemic.
“He’s been brilliant, he’s been outstanding, and the results speak for themselves.”
Former attorney-general Christian Porter has also announced he will quit politics, posting on Facebook that he will not re-contest the seat of Pearce.
“He’s a valued colleague and friend, and has done a lot of good work in this place.”
