Tributes flow for South Sydney legend John Sattler
John Sattler, South Sydney legend has passed away at the age of 80.
One of the game’s tough men, Sattler was famous for playing with a broken jaw in South Sydney’s 1970 grand final victory against Manly at the SCG, Sattler had been battling dementia in recent years as his health deteriorated.
Darryl “Big Marn” Brohman was a teammate of Sattler.
Sattler played 195 games with South Sydney and captained his team to four premiership victories
He said he was tough on the field but off the field he was a gentleman, “there was no better”.
South Sydney first grade coach Jason Demetriou said Sattler’s impact on Souths was huge.
“There’s a legacy that he has left behind that is in the culture of the club to this day,” Demetriou said.
South Sydney Rabbitoh stalwart Ray Martin described Sattler as a “childhood hero”.
