Truck fire cleared after complete chaos on the M5
UPDATE
Crews have spent the night repairing the road surface on the M5, following yesterday’s fiery truck crash.
The truck struck a barrier at Kingsgrove before bursting into flames and forcing the closure of all westbound lanes.
The Transport Management Centre’s Alf Paranihi says more than 16 hours later, the motorway has reopened.

A truck fire is still causing traffic chaos on the M5, hours after the incident occurred.
There are heavy delays on the M5 East after a truck hit a barrier and burst into flames just before midday at Kingsgrove.
The fierce fire and oil spill has seen all westbound lanes of the motorway closed.
The flames have been contained by firefighters and a cleanup effort is now underway.
Motorists are expected to have a nightmare run home, with traffic now banked up 8km to Moore Park.
Listener Jerry called in moments after the accident happened, telling Ray Hadley it didn’t look good.
“The trees alongside of the M5 are catching fire, there’s big black smoke spewing from it, tyres popping.
“It’s chaos.”
