Twitter fined for failure to crack down on child exploitation
In an unprecedented move, Twitter, now known as X, has received a $610,000 fine from Australia’s eSafety Commissioner for its failure to address child sexual abuse material on the platform.
The tech giant’s oversight was not just limited to inaction; they also neglected to respond to the commissioner’s urgent inquiries.
Referring to Elon Musk, the Comissioner, Julie Inman-Grant explained, “I’ve tried writing him letters. I think he should have respect for authority wherever they sit… I mean, these are very straightforward questions that should have very straightforward answers.”
