‘Unbelievable’: Ben Fordham blasts ‘soft’ sentences for Islamic State supporters
Ben Fordham has slammed the “soft” sentences handed down to two Islamic State supporters in Australia.
Isaac El Matari pleaded guilty to planning a terrorist attack and preparing to enter Afghanistan for the purpose of hostile activity.
He’s also admitted he was knowingly a member of IS during the majority of 2019.
El Matari has received a maximum sentence of seven years and four months.
In his sentencing, the judge said, “He had no followers… and the likelihood of any terrorist act coming to fruition was very low.”
“He’d been shopping for ammo and making inquiries about importing guns and explosives,” Ben said.
“He was planning to kill people and we are going to let him out in possibly three years from now? Pull the other one.”
Nowroz Rayed Amin has been jailed for more than five years for preparing for a terror attack in Bangladesh.
He’d been communicating online to other supporters of Islamic State, inferring an attack was being prepared in Australia.
