UNDER FIRE – Ben grills top cop over 95-year-old TASER victim
Karen Webb is front and centre after the horrendous events at Yallambee Lodge. The NSW Police Commissioner cut a forlorn figure following last week’s horrific tasering of a 95 year-old woman.
Clare Nowland, barely 45 kilograms, was struck down by a police officer’s taser after she was caught brandishing a knife in the Cooma nursing home. The incident has gained worldwide interest, with near-universal criticism for the handling of the incident. Nowland is currently suffering from a skull fracture and a bleed on the brain, and sees her life hang in the balance.
Ben Fordham shares the same question as many for the commissioner, which Webb couldn’t answer during last week’s press conference – ‘Will you watch the footage of the incident?’ Webb shied away from answering last time, but Fordham believes she needs to watch the “crucial” evidence in order for the investigation to be worth its weight.
“You’re the boss… You need to watch it. Ultimately, you will make the decision on whether or not this officer remains in the force and you have no plans to view the crucial piece of evidence.”
Webb joined Ben Fordham Live to discuss the incident, and defended not having seen the footage yet and if she plans to any time soon. The Police Commissioner told Fordham of the protocols surrounding the incident and why the initial press release failed to mention the exact circumstances.
