The Australian Workers Union (AWU) is taking legal action against John Holland, alleging the construction company is preventing union officials from monitoring silica dust levels at the Rozelle Interchange.

The AWU claims that John Holland is obstructing their rights to use dust testing equipment to check for residual dust, particularly silica, on the major works projects. The construction company is said to be using a consultant for the same purpose but keeping the results confidential.

NSW AWU Secretary Tony Callinan states, “we should have the right to access the site and conduct monitoring to ensure that people aren’t being exposed to deadly dust.”
