US and EU trade agreement proves Australia needs to be ‘front of the pack’
Today marks a seismic shift in the move towards global trade.
After a period of tough talks, the US and Europe have agreed to lower trade barriers.
The moment saw US President Donald Trump and European Commission Chief Jean-Claude Juncker promise to work towards zero tariffs.
But simmering under the surface, is President Trump’s threat to impose another half a trillion dollars worth of tariffs on China.
Federal Trade Minister Steve Ciobo says the development between the US and the EU is “precisely why we’ve got make sure that we keep Australia at the front of the pack”.
He tells Ben Fordham while a number of countries “are facing economic headwinds…Australia is proving incredibly resilient”.
“We’re improving our business competitiveness, we’re focusing on growing exports.
“We’ve seen strong growth, really strong growth, in employment in Australia.
“That all represents really good news.”
