‘Vote them out’: Minister’s message to Inner West’s dissatisfied ratepayers
Local Government Minister Shelley Hancock has given an ironclad guarantee council elections will go ahead in December as intended.
She told Jim Wilson she’s been “in constant contact with the Electoral Commissioner” to ensure COVID-safe elections, with measures including extended counting times and shutting down exposed polling booths.
Recent council scandals including the Inner West Council’s motion to ban nuclear-powered submarines prompted Ms Hancock to issue advice to frustrated ratepayers.
“I’d be really upset.
“If I was a ratepayer of the Inner West, I’d be thinking … they should be absolutely dedicating their time [to] and focusing on local government issues.
“If they’re really concerned about what those councillors have done, well then vote them out – that’s the solution.”
