A former Greens politician has issued a warning about the Party’s newly elected federal members.

Ben Fordham Live has been contacted by Jeremy Buckingham who represented the Greens in the NSW Upper House between 2011 and 2019.

Mr Buckingham says the new Greens are “ultra-left and self-declared militant revolutionaries”.

One of them is the new MP for Griffith in Queensland, Max Chandler Mather.

Four years ago, Mr Chandler-Mather gave a speech to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Karl Marx.

And there is one point of the talk in particular that stood out.

Max Chandler-Mather suggested harsher sentences for domestic violence offenders don’t work.

“The more draconian sets of laws and strict laws the state places for instance on domestic violence – actually domestic violence amongst our most vulnerable population is getting worse no matter what the state does.

“And so the state’s response to this is more draconian laws, more discipline, more coming down hard, longer prison terms, mandatory sentencing and all manner of things”

“It’s a sort of hostile state sitting up above civil society .. not really understanding what’s going on”

Jeremy Buckingham says “It is worrying these Greens now hold the balance of power in Canberra”.

“Max Chandler-Mather and his new cohort of Greens are ultra-left and self-declared ‘militant revolutionaries’.

“They have the numbers in the new expanded Greens party room which in turn has the balance of power in the Australian Senate.”
