Minister urges Government to raise Warragamba Dam wall to prevent flooding

NSW Deputy Liberal Leader Stuart Ayres is reiterating calls to raise the Warragamba Dam wall as it starts to spill.

Heavy rain, thunderstorms and destructive winds are forecast to hit Sydney as the east coast low moves along the coast.

The Warragamba Dam is already spilling over and will continue to for the next two weeks.

“The water inflows into the dam are not as high as first anticipated so that is a good sign,” Mr Ayres told Ben Fordham.

Residents in the north-western suburbs face an anxious wait, with flood watches issued for the Hawkesbury-Nepean, Colo and MacDonald rivers.

The Minister for Western Sydney has been calling for the dam wall to be raised but the project has been caught up in red tape.
