A driver has been fined after a car caught fire during a gender reveal on the Gold Coast.

The car was doing burnouts when it released blue smoke at Norwell last year and caught fire.

The driver was found guilty and fined $1000, with his license disqualified for six months.

Merrick Watts says the act was irresponsible.

“Doing it when there are young people standing around filming is just a recipe for disaster.

“I don’t know if its a gender reveal or if it’s a bogan reveal.”
