Heavy rain batters Sydney as thousands evacuated
Heavy rain continues to batter the city, with some residents put on evacuation notice.
A flood evacuation warning for Woronora and Bonnet Bay in Sydney’s south has been upgraded to an order to leave.

NSW SES Acting Commissioner Daniel Austin said there are concerns in the metropolitan area.
Mr Austin told Luke Grant, “There some pretty significant flash flooding”.
“We really ask people to stay aware of their own surroundings.”

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for heavy rainfall for large parts of the state.
SES spokesperson Adam Jones told Deborah Knight they’ve had an “enormous” amount of calls for help with 21 flood rescues.
“The heavy rain will sit for about the next 12-24 hours.”
