A Liberal Senator has declared Scott Morrison won the second leaders’ debate of the campaign after it was declared a tie.

On a two-party preferred basis in Newspoll Labor is leading the Coalition.

Labor’s primary vote is up one point to 39 per cent with the Coalition sitting at 35 per cent – the largest margin Labor’s held over the Coalition since the campaign began.

Scott Morrison remains in the lead as preferred Prime Minister on 44 per cent, with Anthony Albanese up 3 points to 42 per cent.

Mr Morrison’s satisfaction rating has fallen 3 points to 41 per cent – while those dissatisfied rose 4 points to 55 per cent.

Finance Minister Simon Birmingham told Ben Fordham the polls aren’t always right.

“We all lived through the last election campaign and we know that the polls can be terribly wrong.”
