‘Weak’ Anthony Albanese under fire over Labor’s opposition to migration

The postponed reopening of the international border to visa holders will happen on Wednesday, prompting fresh political debate around migration.

Tourism Minister Dan Tehan told Chris O’Keefe it’s a timely announcement given the need for students and agriculture workers to fill shortages.

“All the experience shows that it actually helps with Australian jobs, because the more skills that you’ve got the more businesses that can operate, the more that they can employ.”

Mr Tehan wasn’t fazed by Labor leader Anthony Albanese’s pre-election pledge to oppose the government’s proposed increase to mass immigration.

“We don’t know what he actually stands for.

“He’s pretty weak when it comes to these types of decisions.

“I look forward to that contest in the months to come next year.”
