‘We’re as ready as we’ll ever be’: Firefighters brace for dangerous bushfire season
The head of the state’s Rural Fire Service says they’re as ready as they’ll ever be for what’s predicted to be a particularly dangerous bushfire season.
26 bushfires are burning in New South Wales at the moment, nine of them are yet to be contained.
RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons tells Alan Jones with no solid rain in sight, they know conditions will only get worse.
“I think we’re as ready as we’ll ever be Alan.
“I don’t think we’ve ever been better trained, better resourced, better funded and better equipped.
“But the piece of the jigsaw puzzle that’s really important is people living in and having property in bushfire-prone areas…
“Making sure they do their part to give every chance they can to firefighters to try and save their property, save their home and most importantly, save their lives.”
