‘What an insult’: Bali bomb maker to walk free a decade early
A man jailed for his role in the 2002 Bali bombings is due to be released from prison weeks before the 20th anniversary.
Umar Patek assembled a bomb that ripped through the Sari Club and Paddy’s Pub in Kuta, killing more than 200 people, including 88 Australians.
He was sentenced to 20 years in prison in Indonesia but has only served 10 after he was tracked down, arrested and sentenced in 2012.
“What a disgrace and an insult,” Ben Fordham said.
“Indonesia has no issue executing Australians who smuggle drugs but not Umar Patek – his is a very different story.”
