What the latest migration changes means for the country
The federal government have announced major migration reforms today, which will transform the workplace and population in the country for the foreseeable future.
From July 1, businesses will have to start paying new temporary skilled migrants $70,000 a year, up from $53,000 currently, and migrants will have the ability to apply for permanent residency in the country from the end of this year.
The Australian Workers Union National Secretary, Daniel Walton, believes the latest changes will “give more opportunities for permanent workers and clean up exploitation”, but Chris O’Keefe believes the situation is a bit of a “utopia”.
