‘What we’re facing is unprecedented’: Premier’s desperate warning to NSW
Premier Gladys Berejiklian is warning “today is not the day for complacency” as a ‘catastrophic fire danger rating’ is in place across Sydney and parts of New South Wales.
A statewide Total Fire Ban is in place as more than 50 bushfires continue to burn across the state.
The ‘catastrophic’ rating is in place across the Hunter Valley, Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Sydney and the Illawarra, with extremely hot and windy conditions forecast.

Ms Berejiklian has also declared a state of emergency, giving emergency services heightened powers.
“It was a no-brainer given the catastrophic conditions we’re facing today,” the Premier tells Alan Jones.
“We don’t take these decisions lightly Alan, but they’re necessary.
“What we’re facing today is unprecedented. The state of emergency will stay in place for seven days at least.”
