The Coalition has announced extra fencing to keep wild dogs out of the NSW farmland bordering with Queensland and South Australia.

The proposed 742km barrier will see the current border fence extended to more than double its current length.

Wild dogs cost the economy around $22 million each year and NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro says an extension is the answer.

“The fence is an important part of…protecting livestock and wildlife, and at the same time the livelihoods of a lot of our farmers,” he says.

“At a time of drought, every livestock is important in relation to its value.”

Work on the fence is expected to start in July.
