A Lismore MP says more training and resources are needed for the State Emergency Services after a series of bungles on the North Coast.

Inaccurate forecasting, faulty rain gauges and confused evacuation warnings have all copped criticism for their parts in the emergency response.

Janelle Saffin told Ray Hadley money invested in Resilience NSW should have gone to the SES.

“With SES, they’re fantastic and we need them,” she said. “We’ve got to have them with the capabilities to do the job.

“It’s the SES that does all the rescues – not just floods.

“I’ve spoken about this in parliament; I said they need what I call in-line staff to support all the volunteers and attract volunteers.”
