Howard Collins from NSW Transport revealed why peak-time fares remain expensive.

Mid-June 2020, Transport Minister Andrew Constance announced the changes to peak times on public transport to spread patronage across the days during COVID.

However, the policy is still in place despite no longer being in a pandemic.

Therefore, continuing to be more expensive to travel during peak hours.

Collins told Chris O’Keefe why TNSW hasn’t updated the policy to old peak fares.

“It was initially COVID… but it was also at the time a long-term plan to try and get people to spread their journeys,” Collins said.
