Why Australian Bass are released into our waterways

Sydney Water has revealed its highest record of Australian Bass released into our waterways.

Every 10 years Sydney Water has controlled the number of toxic fish in waterways by releasing Australian Bass into Botany Wetlands.

The Lead Scientist from Sydney Water Robert Allen told Deborah Knight they have just released their highest number of Australian Bass.

Mr Allen added that the exact number released is 5000.

Carp are notorious for eating native fish and birds, lowering the quality of the water.

Aussie Bass is then used to eat invasive baby fish and eggs to stop carp from reproducing.

This also helps give other native fish and animals food.
