Why former premier Barry O’Farrell wants India to beat Australia in the cricket
Former NSW premier Barry O’Farrell has revealed he wants India to win the Test cricket series against Australia.
India came down under favourites and won the first match in Adelaide.
It looks as though the Aussies will level the series in Perth though, with a dominant performance.
Mr O’Farrell, who is now Deputy Chair of the Australia-India Council, admits to John Stanley that he wants the opposition to win.
“I really would like to see India win this series,” he says.
“Because I think that would be great for Australia-India relations. It would drive even more tourism to this country and would mean that the next Test matches are all sell-outs.”
Mr O’Farrell is also a member of the SCG Trust and says ticket sales for the fourth and final Test in Sydney have already exceeded expectations.
He says fans in the green and gold will be greatly outnumbered.
“They’ll absolutely be there but they’ll be out-cheered and out-performed by the Indians.”
